- That's a bit of a difficult question with my story what it is! Please do read on.. .. DG
- Tell Us About You and Your Career
- I'm David Guitard (DG), I'm a Professional Recording Artist from Northern, New Brunswick! Like many artists, my introduction to music & singing was at a young age being on stage at 5 years old wearing a cowboy hat & boots! With a musical family who sing & play many instruments all having a big influence! Also many great artists like Bruce Springsteen, The Eagles, Bob Dillon, CCR, Gordon Lightfoot, Metallica, Guns & Roses & also The Tragically Hip to name a few! The genre I play is folk/pop/rock, finger-picking most of my music!
For the last 15 years my life included music & a great deal of healing, in 2003 I had fallen almost ten feet & landing head first on concrete while living in Western Canada! Was in a coma for 10 days & in the hospital for two months with a life changing Traumatic Head Injury! The first five years were the most difficult having start over again, things like walking, talking or even remembering my family! Most memories before I was 26 are sadly lost, I had gone to College for Electronics Engineering at RCC in Toronto, Ontario & then to University for Psychology at UNB in Fredericton, NB! I had a 3 page resume known by heart in detail & now after my injury those memories were lost!
When I first came out of the coma I didn't remember anything including my own name but after a short time I asked for my guitar & my friend went to get for me in the hospital! I've dedicated my life to music throughout my recovery with my career always growing!
During that 1st year living by my families dairy farm in Belledune, NB, after countless hours playing, singing & teaching myself, I had both recorded my first indie album, went door to door selling them & also recorded a 2 song demo at a Professional Studio with a friend harmonizing! From the very beginning had dreams of becoming Signed to a label & having a big career so I was playing all my original songs continuously for years!
The injury to my brain caused me to develop Epilepsy & I began having seizures so for my own health & safety I had moved in the first of 2 special care homes! Through many tough years I continued to play every day! In the care homes, on the street & even in the hospital during my many stays after seizures, for everyone who would want to listen or for myself! Also having started singing karaoke every week where I worked my vocals! Spending thousands of hours doing this to both perfect my skill & also gain fans, music gave me strength to heal.
After working out a deal with the co-owner of 'Hometown Studios', helping his gigs in Northern NB, I had recorded my 1st full length Indie album and then independently released it! Not long after this, in Feb. 2012, after years of healing, my neuro-psychologist told me that my brain had healed 100%! Promoting myself online became very important after this, with my songs being played on 100+ internet radio stations, being interviewed numerous times & my social media network reaching 70+ platforms with a following upwards of 265,000, Because of this presence online, I was both recognized by the owner of Asylum Productions (Ohio) in the fall of 2012 & then becoming Signed to his Indie label on Feb 1st, 2013 for the release of my 1st retail album 'ONE' on May 1st! In 2014, the label would then become Asylum Music Group although unexpectedly closed mid 2015! I Was then in transition before Signing to Evolution Inc. (Chicago) for a short while! Then in Nov. 2017, with the knowledge & support that I'd acquired, I believed it was time to branch off under my own Indie Record Label to release any of my future works! Possibly even to Sign other artists to help them move forward in their careers as well, guiding them with a professional, trustworthy team around some unfortunate realities of this trying industry! I had been Signed to two labels & even had dealt with fraudsters, all the while also scouting, marketing, promoting and building a brand with the potential for great things! With this, deciding to part ways with Evolution Inc. to start towards getting my business number to open & operate DG Music Inc. / DG Records, to then release my album 'ONE' independently under 'DG Records' & also opening a Merchandise Store from 02/12/18 till 01/21/19! Until the design of my new platform & Official Website opened
As an artist, my next single is nearing completion although I've been concentrating on building my brand, my team and Indie Record Label! As the Owner/CEO of DG Music Inc. / DG Records I was very proud that my Indie label started operations on Jan 21st, 2019 with the re-release of my first retail album 'ONE' that was written while still very ill so to have available for my fans through the years to come! Also that I've now got a team who brings the Professionalism & Expertise in Marketing, Branding, Website Design, Music Production & Distribution! As of October 24th, 2019, we were adding the 5th artist to our roster including myself with also releasing the first single, 'Ready For The War' for DG Records artist, Bumpy Barns!
After all this time, I have truly been very blessed that everything continues moving forward in my career, this includes my ever growing social media network, fan-base & connections in the professional music industry which continues to grow! It makes all those times I remember cursing my fingers after the pain & bleeding in the beginning all worthwhile, I invite you to connect else-ware on social media as well as send a message anytime!
