Chicago native, Tr!c releases his latest single, "Rugged"
TR!C, formerly Tric the Tyrant, is an artist and producer from Cologne, Germany. When he was 9 years old, his family moved to South Florida and he is currently living in Chicago. As a child of the African diaspora, his sound is best described as Afro-Caribbean sadboi music often relying on a mix of influences ranging from Papa Wemba and Bayuda to Kid Cudi and Nirvana. He credits Cudi with giving a voice to weird kids like him. Additionally, TR!C is a fan of Belgian sensation, Stromae.
A trained Djemba player in his childhood, TR!C began producing his own music in his first year of school in Chicago. He linked up with other budding artists, learning the ropes of producing and sound engineering using YouTube tutorials and released an EP and a mixtape while performing at school events and open mics. He didn’t realize that music was worth pursuing until 2016 when he released a song titled “Lucid” on SoundCloud late one night. At a show later that week, he recalls someone in the crowd singing the lyrics word for word.
TR!C gained some more popularity when he released his single "Never Break Up" with an accompanying music video directed by Dad’s New Boyfriend in early 2017. Afterward, he released his first mixtape "LOVE !S TR!CCY" and a Teletubby-themed EP titled "Tubbiworld99". He's performed in venues around Chicago such as the Silver Room and the Louder House. Since his last project, he has spent much of his time traveling and coming into contact with other artists with ranging tastes all over the world. He spent much of 2018 DJing house parties in Europe and moved his attention mostly to producing with other artists in the Chicago and South Florida area. Currently, he's working on his sophomore mixtape, “BARE”.
